Brookfield School win through to National Schools' Golf Finals as Archie has a day to remember

27 schools competed in the annual Derbyshire Schools’ Golf Championships were hosted by Chevin on a wet rainy day last week.

Scoring was difficult and very few managed to master the tricky conditions. Olivia Barker-Sabido from Brookfield School in Chesterfield led for much of the day with a nett 68, until late scores of nett 66 from Thomas Brown of Heanor Gate, and a stunning nett 58 from Archie Cole, also of Brookfield, stole the show and the winnings. Archie won by 8 and led Brookfield School in Chesterfield to Team glory. They will now go forward to represent Derbyshire in the National Schools Team Finals at Woodhall Spa in July.

Eva Myers of Hasland won best gross with a 70, followed by Luca Abraham with a 73 – ahd the best scores of the day. Leo Lambert won the prize for best score by a Year 8 or better with a superb 79.

Derby College won the Scratch Team event, narrowly pipping Trent College to the title. The team of Eva Myers, Chloe Searson-Best (John Flamsteed), Luca Abraham (Friesland), Adam Gentles (Trent College), Matthew Edwards (Derby College), Oliver Bailey (Dronfield) and Presley Allott (Derby College), will now compete for Derbyshire in the Midland Schools’ Championships at Trentham Park, Staffordshire in late May.
